The Face of the Brand
Flipping through magazines, you'll see advertisements on every other page almost. It's crazy how many celebrities are now "the face" of all these big designers and labels. It makes sense though... have a high profile person wear/support your brand in order to make higher sales. That's really what it's all about. If a customer saw her favorite actress wearing a certain pair of shoes, she are more likely to buy those shoes. Not only is it an endorsement but a great marketing strategy.
Here are some ad campaigns that I've seen. Most of the celebrities and designers start out as friends and then later on collaborate. Best example of that? Blake Lively and Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel.

Mademoiselle Handbag collection
Lagerfeld calls Blake "the all-american girl". So no surprise, he chose her to be the face of the mademoiselle handbag collection. Some say he designed this collection specifically for her. Not too shabby having a huge brand want you to be the face for his line right? They were great friends before working together. Chanel is one of Blake's favorite brands. She wears it all the time!
